Christmas Party -- 2011

Another successful Christmas party is in the books!  Great company!  Boat parade viewing was enjoyed by all!  Thank you to everyone that came out to not only celebrate the holiday season, but to also support the John Wayne Orange County Alumni Chapter of Sigma Chi.  Brother Gerst's new boat "Polly Mer" won Best Boat under 30 feet at the 103rd Annual Newport Beach Boat Parade!

Special thanks to Brother Paul Gerst and his wife Shirley for hosting another successful Christmas Party.

About Sigma Chi

One, and the main, aim and object of Sigma Chi has been, and is, to develop and train broad-minded men who can recognize the wholeness of things and who are not bound down to a contracted, eight by ten notion of exclusiveness. There is an absolute necessity for such men.
- Founder Benjamin P. Runkle

What is Sigma Chi?

Sigma Chi is a brotherhood with roots in the collegiate experience that engenders a lifelong commitment to strive to achieve true friendship, equal justice and the fulfillment of learning as part of our overall responsibilities to the broader communities in which we live.

As Fraternity members celebrated Sigma Chi's recent accomplishments at the 78th Grand Chapter in Dallas from June 23-26, they also installed new Executive Committee into office. They are:

Grand Consul (President) Dennis Santoli, CASE WESTERN 1967;

Grand Pro Consul (Vice President) Mike Greenberg, ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 1982;

Grand Quaestor (Treasurer) Tommy Geddings, SOUTH CAROLINA 1985;

Grand Trustee member Harv Silverman, NORTHERN COLORADO 1965;

Grand Praetor (regional advisor) member Dan Mathewson; PUGET SOUND 1986;

Alumnus member Mike Ursillo, BROWN 1978;

Undergraduate Representative Jack Lynch, PURDUE 2012;

Undergraduate Representative Will Pullin, SOUTH FLORIDA 2012;

Tribune The Rev. Francis "Skip" Flynn, MIAMI (FLORIDA) 1967;

Historian Bill Fleming, SAM HOUSTON 1965

Sigma Chis will converge on the campus of Albion College in Albion, Mich., from Oct. 14-16, 2011, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the creation of the famed serenade song, The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. Byron Stokes, ALBION 1913, and F. Dudleigh Vernor, ALBION 1914, wrote and composed the music while undergraduates at the college. The Fraternity later honored both men with the Significant Sig Award.

The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi hit a new level of fame in December 1927 when a recording of it by Fred Waring charted as the No. 3 most popular song in America, and it remains a traditional serenade heard at special events as Sigma Chis recognize the women in their lives.

At the Albion celebration, which will include the unveiling of a plaque that recognizes the song, a concert and a Sweetheart Ball, will be Sigma Chi Fraternity's 67th International President Dennis Santoli, CASE WESTERN 1967; International Sweetheart Sydney Binnington; and Sigma Chi Headquarters Executive Director Mike Dunn, UTAH STATE 1976.
